Things To Do This Summer

By: Rebeccah Flesichmann

If your summer programs are canceled, here are some ideas for how to spend your summer days.

  1. Read a book. There are many free books available online or you can just google “[book title] pdf” to find a specific one.

  2. Volunteer. I have recently started a nonprofit that connects surplus food to homeless shelters. You can help transport food, bake, help make the website or coordinate pick up times with the farms or shelters. Email me for more info 2021rebeccahf304@student.whps.org

  3. Take an online course. Coursera and EdX are both free and great options. Maybe this summer you can learn a new language or machine learning? You can do anything you set your mind to.

  4. Exercise and keep your body in shape. I enjoy yoga, Zumba, taking long walks, hiking, and running. Find what works for you and make a plan to do it.

  5. Keep in touch with your friends and have group calls (Facetime, Zoom, Houseparty, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.) Staying social is very important for your wellbeing.

  6. If you are a rising junior or senior, visit some colleges virtually! Many have tours and scheduled info sessions on their website.

  7. Try something new! Summer gives us all the opportunity to try new things and explore! Maybe paint that picture you keep seeing on your Pinterest or tie-dye your old t-shirt! Whatever floats your boat!
