West Hartford Music Update
By: Xavier Blackwell-Lipkind
I Giovani Solisti and the West Hartford Camerata held their Fall Showcase at St. James’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 10. The program featured a suite by Herbert and an original composition by Emmett Drake, the director of Solisti.
Conard’s select music groups will perform an in-school concert just before Thanksgiving Break. Unlike in previous years, the concert is optional to attend.
The West Hartford Stroll will take place on Thursday, December 5. This holiday celebration in West Hartford Center features musical performances by a number of Conard music ensembles, as well as elaborate decorations and free food samples.
The Conard Winter Concert is scheduled for Thursday, December 19. This event will be just as festive as the Stroll, with performances of seasonal classics like The Nutcracker and Carol of the Bells.
The Connecticut Youth Symphony, the most advanced youth orchestra at the Hartt School’s Community Division, will perform a full program on Saturday, December 21. The concert will take place at Lincoln Theater on the University of Hartford campus and will feature works by Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Rossini, along with the premiere of Esther Shuyue Cao’s The Legend of Mulan.
And that’s not all! Other ensembles performing in the next two months include the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble and Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Make sure to check these groups’ websites for more information, and enjoy the music!
